NOT Looking Out the Window Isn’t Keeping the Grass From Growing
“If you’re constantly striking out and not analyzing what you’re doing, you are not just wasting a good strikeout. You are developing a bad swing by practicing bad habits.”
Michael Brakefield
Sometime ago, I wrote about not wasting a good strikeout. A good friend of mine messaged me back with the above quote. This is the absolute truth. As I take an honest assessment of each area of my life, I have sadly found a few “bad swings” that have turned into bad habits. By tuning out objective reality, and by not measuring, analyzing, and making course corrections, I have allowed some tares to grow up with the wheat. YIKES!
Take a look at each of the following areas of your life and rate yourself on a scale of 1-7 (7 being the highest), of how disciplined you are in catching the “bad swings” before they turn into bad habits.
Business/Career – Loving what you do
Family/Friends – Harmonious relationships
Money/Finances – Control of time and money
Recreation/Fun – Joy and reduction of stress
Health/Diet/Exercise – Increasing your energy and confidence levels
Social/Cultural – Helping others/generosity and giving
Faith/Spiritual – Spiritual fulfillment and well-being
Personal Development – Actively learning and growing
A lot of us aren’t big fans of taking an honest assessment like this, but like I tell my kids, it’s easier to cut the grass once a week than it is once a summer. And NOT looking out the window at the lawn, isn’t keeping the grass from growing.
Boo Yah!
