Are You Looking In All The Wrong Places?

“Looking for fish? Don’t climb a tree.”

Chinese Proverb

 fish in a tree

Or as I like to say, “If you are looking for success and prosperity, you won’t find them under the couch cushions you’re lounging on.”

So many people, I listen to, are constantly talking about when they win the lottery, or when their ship comes, or something about Ed McMahon and sweepstakes, right after they complain about some sort of lack in their lives.  Sometimes, when I’m in the mood, I’ll ask if they actually play the lottery or enter the sweepstakes.  Usually, they haven’t even taken that step in their non-existent hunt for abundance.

I must be getting crotchety in my old age, because I just can’t even muster a patronizing nicety in response anymore.  I can hardly mask the eye roll, the head shake, and the snort.  Are we really that delusional? I’ve come to the conclusion, that yes, most of us are that delusional.  I heard someone, going on and on, about how they were so busy, that they didn’t have time take care of a financial transaction in the time frame that it was due, and it cost them several hundred dollars.  They were complaining about it, the entire 3 minutes it took to complete the thing online, three weeks late.  WOW! Really?

If you are like me, and actually want an abundant life, without lack, and not just “wishing” for it, then ask yourself this:

If I’m looking for prosperity, where am I looking for it?

How do I define prosperity, success, and abundance?

What does an “abundant life” even look like to me?

Am I willing to take the time and action that is necessary to achieve abundance?

Do my actions, habits and behaviors reflect that I am looking for abundance? (Hint: It’s not in the sofa cushions, so laying there is a “NO”.)

If I keep doing what I am doing, do I really believe my life will just become abundant somehow, like the lottery?

Most people, I observe, are sort of like that old country song about “looking for love (insert: abundance) in all the wrong places”, if they are looking for it at all.

Boo Yah!
