Knight in Shining Armor Not Needed
A few weeks ago, I was in Atlanta doing a Mental Toughness Coaching Seminar with my mentor, Steve Siebold.
My oldest son, a high school sophomore, went with me. After the seminar, we were standing around talking, and I mentioned my response to an excuse a client was giving me for non-performance.
Steve said, “Man, you are tough.”
My son immediately chimed in with a chuckle, “Yeah, you should try living with him.”
We laughed, but Mental Toughness works. As many of you know, I have two boys and a little girl. The boys work hard in school, get good grades, and enjoy being part of the wrestling team. They are mentally tough, no question about it. However, my gorgeous, precious little girl, is tougher than most grown men. I’ve seen her wreck her bike, knees bloodied, and not shed a tear. More mad at herself for the wreck than worried about the pain and blood.
The other morning, she came prancing down the stairs, long blonde hair flowing in her wake, the joy of life exuding from every cell of her being. I couldn’t help but smile. She came over to me, to give me a good morning kiss, when I noticed the T-shirt she was wearing said, “This Princess Saves Herself”.
Stop the tape! Firstly, I couldn’t be any more proud, as a father. Secondly, YOU GO GIRL! That’s how she is, even at 9 years old, she’s not waiting around for a knight in shining armor to rescue her. She knows what she wants and goes after it. I sleep soundly at night knowing that my baby girl would never waste a second of her life, locked up in a castle tower, waiting for somebody to save her. She’s got it handled.
Do you feel locked up? Are you waiting to be rescued? How many seconds of your life are being wasted, waiting to be saved?
You don’t need a knight in shining armor, Princess. Go save yourself.
Boo Yah!
