“I’m tired of hearing all this talk from people who don’t understand the process of hard work—like little kids in the back seat asking ‘Are we there yet?’”

Nick Saban

It ain’t easy, if it was, everybody would have already done it.  Why, succeeding, of course.  (But you already knew that.)

If someone isn’t in the trenches, working the work that I work, I don’t even hear them, anymore.  And neither should you.  You have a vision.  You have goals.  You have a plan, and you are working hard, executing the plan.

You don’t owe an explanation to anyone, especially a back seat rider.  Don’t listen to the noise and chatter coming from the passenger cabin.  Send them some more little bags of peanuts, some ginger ale, and another movie for them to entertain themselves with, while you do the work.

You are a world-class performer. You always concentrate on the fundamentals and mechanics of the process of your profession.  World-class results are a by-product of your discipline, hard work, and excellence.   You aren’t effected by criticism from those who are along for the ride.

If the bold and italicized sentences don’t feel like an accurate description of yourself, don’t stress out.  Write those statements out, in the first person, and begin to say them out loud.  Tape them on your computer, your bathroom mirror, and put them on the wall paper of your phone.  Read them and say them, over and over, day after day, until those words begin to be an accurate description of yourself.

If nothing else, you won’t be one of the folks in the passenger cabin, yakity-yak-yakking, about how long it’s taking to get there.

Boo Yah!!
