How Are You Training Attitude?
My mentor and business partner, Steve Siebold, is one of the world’s leading Mental Toughness Coaches. In his work with Fortune 500 sales teams, he has for the past two decades, surveyed the top executives of the companies. These surveys have shown that top executives believe that “performance” breaks down as follows:
10% Skills
10% Knowledge
80% Attitude
Jinkys, Scoob! Any of us that have had to perform under pressure, in any field, know this to be the absolute truth. We know that talent and experience can only get you so far. Examples in professional sports are numerous, but here’s a big one: T.O. – talented, but bad attitude. How’d that work out for him? …..Not too good (as we say in the South).
If this break down is true, and even if it isn’t exactly right, top executives at the top companies believe it. That leads us to ask this question of ourselves, “How are we training attitude?” If we spend anytime at all on training, it is usually training to increase knowledge or skills. How many of us actually train to have a Peak Performer’s attitude? If the top business executives in the world are right, that means that most of us are doing little to nothing to train the biggest (80%) piece of the Peak Performance puzzle.
Boo Yah!!
