NEVER LIE
Yesterday we continued to look at the best advice I’ve ever been given. (Remember it was given to me by my leadership mentor, Lt. Col. John Folchetti.) He told me to, “Ride Hard, Shoot Straight, and Never Lie.”
There is so much in those few words, that even though it stuck with me, it was years before I began to fully understand the scope and depth of his advice. Today, let’s look at the last segment, “Never Lie”.
This isn’t talking about when you’re significant other asks you, “Does this outfit make me look fat?” (“No, your fat makes you look fat,” is NOT the appropriate response.) Never Lie is talking about your integrity and your character. When you tell somebody you are going to do something, follow through and do it. The “keeping of your word” is so rare today, that if you do this one thing, you will rise to the top automatically. You will be seen as a Peak Performer simply by doing what you say you will do. SHOCKING!! I know, right, but it’s the absolute truth. When I hear someone say, “I promise”, I run the other way. It’s a dead give away that they will NOT keep their word. Followed by the close second, “I’ll try”. Trying is Lying….I’m just saying. Have the courage, (to not by manipulated by feeling guilty) by just telling someone “No”, instead of “I’ll try, I promise”.
If you have fallen into to the trap of letting people down easy by saying “I’ll try, I promise” stop and take Lt. Col. Folchetti’s advice, “NEVER LIE.”
Boo yah!!

[…] Yesterday, we looked at keeping our word. This goes directly to our character. It’s all about character, with character being who you are when you are alone, with nobody else looking. Your reputation is the image that you present or portray to folks when they are looking. […]
