You Can’t! (or Can You?)

On the home page of my website is this quote, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right,” Henry Ford.  Man-O-Chevitz, is this true!!  Not a day goes by when the majority of people I cross paths with, whether in business, a restaurant, my wireless provider,  fitness, nutrition, career advancement, or even yard work, for crying out loud, do I hear “I can’t” coming out of their mouths.  Stop saying, “I can’t” when you what you are really meaning to say is, “I won’t” and even more so when you are saying, “I won’t because I don’t want to put forth the effort.”

If you are spending more time and energy coming up with the “reasons” why you can’t do something then you are trying to accomplish the thing itself, it’s time for an honest assessment.  RED FLAG!! Ask yourself this critical thinking question, “Why am I really avoiding doing this?”  Is it laziness? Is it fear? Is it that you think so little of your knowledge, skills, and abilities? Is it too much work? (See laziness.)  Don’t stop digging until you get to the real answer as to why you “can’t” do whatever it is that you aren’t doing.   Every other reason you “can’t” is just an excuse and cop out.  We will never reach Peak Performance until we make the mentally tough decision that we CAN.  I always ask myself, “Andrew, are you an AmeriCAN or an AmeriCAN’T?”  There seems to be far too many AmeriCAN’Ts running around these days.

Action Step for today is to write down and track all of your “I CAN’Ts”.
